Poetry

A Red Red Rose - a poem by Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose

That's newly sprung in June;

O my Luve's like the melodie

That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in luve am I;

And I will luve thee still, my dear,

Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi' the sun;

I will luve thee still, my dear,

While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,

And fare thee weel awhile!

And I will come again, my Luve,

Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Alright, so i mainly like this poem because concert choir sang it last year and it was absolutly gorgous sounding.But i also like it because its really romantic and i am kind of a sap. Also i like that it sounds like its from some 18th centery love story (not sure if thats the right time period).

The title fits this piece of work because the "red Rose"is a metaphor for his love and his lover, which is what the poem is about. The author uses similies and metaphors with comparing his love to a red rose, and he uses imagery when he paints a picture of the sea and melting rocks to emphasize the strenght of his love. Repitition is used a lot to highlight important parts(important to the author) and to give the poem a fluid flow. These devices make the poem more interesting and describe exactly the extent of what the author is feeling.

The tone of this poem is promising and romantic, he created this tone by the midevil love story language, and by the diction he uses.

Pretty poem. I like how love is spelled luve.

Old fashioned and cool, good choice!
